The Inner Mother Deck is a powerful tool in your quest to care for your Inner Child. Each card offers up an inquiry. The question posed on each card is intended to support you finding what's true and correct given the details of your life, rather than telling you what to do. The cards support the growth of the Inner Mother through reflection, intention, and invitation into deeper relationship with the natural world.
The deck supports you as you gain trust in your Inner Mother and reconnecting with the exiled parts of yourself. Through this act of self-restoration, your sense of self will strengthen and your relationships will benefit. It will feel like a coming home to yourself. |
Jill Doneen Clifton, author and creator of Landscape of Mothers, got to know her Inner Mother while parenting her children. The natural world repatterned her nervous system toward connection, and the gentle leadership of parenting. She has an academic background as an ecologist, and over two decades of parenting and grandparenting knowledge.
The structure of the deck
The Inner Mother Deck is a deck of 72 cards based on the Landscape of Mothers archetypes.
There are 8 Major Archetypes cards: Inner Child, Maiden, Great Mother, Grandmother, Mother Nature, Aunties, and Wise Woman. They are the overarching symbols and themes of The Inner Mother Deck.
The Minor Archetypes are the 8 archetypes that are in the Landscape of Mothers book: Sun and Moon Mother, Wind Mother, Desert Mother, Island Mother, Mountain Mother, River Mother, Forest Mother, and Ocean Mother. Each of these Mothers has a total of 8 questions that she brings for our reflection.
You do not need to have read the book in order to use these cards, they stand on their own.

I'm also hosting an Inner Mother Deck Playshop so that we can gather to explore our decks! I'm imagining a lighthearted and informal get together... think gathering around the table with tea. I'll tell a little bit about how the cards came to be, how I tend to use them, and we'll have some time to ask questions and play with what's possible. If you're new to Landscape of Mothers, you can purchase a card deck and book bundle that includes a signed copy of the book, The Inner Mother Deck, and a logo bag in which to store the deck. While the deck is designed to stand alone, it will be helpful to have the book which includes more complete descriptions of each archetype, if you already familiar with them.
