Hi, I’m Jill Doneen Clifton
I am the daughter of Anne (Phyllis), granddaughter to Lucille (Sammy) and Virginia (Ginny), great-granddaughter to Maud, Mary, Maria, and Mary. I am a mother to three children and two grandchildren. It was through parenting that I found out how much I needed a foundation for my sense of self. I knew that I couldn’t repeat the kind of parenting I received, but I didn’t know what else to do. I could imagine kindness in parenting, but found that it was difficult for me to do because my nervous system was so used to chaos, punishment, and neglect. I had to do some serious self-parenting. |
Historically undermothered, it became my job to do what my parents couldn’t. The more I’ve learned over the years, it seems likely that even with “good parents” we can be undermothered because of how isolated mothers have become.
While there’s so much more to say about being undermothered, the antidote to passing on the wounds is to begin with ourselves. To acknowledge the Inner Child and what they did not receive, and to develop a soft, caring, loving Inner Mother to meet them.

The Inner Mother Deck is a powerful tool in your quest to care for your Inner Child. Each card offers up an inquiry. The question posed on each card is intended to support you finding what's true and correct given the details of your life, rather than telling you what to do. The cards support the growth of the Inner Mother through reflection, intention, and invitation into deeper relationship with the natural world.
The deck supports you as you gain trust in your Inner Mother and reconnecting with the exiled parts of yourself. Through this act of self-restoration, your sense of self will strengthen and your relationships will benefit. It will feel like a coming home to yourself. |

The deck is fundamentally structured as inquiry rather than prescription because as we’ve grown up in a world focussed on productivity and image, it gets increasingly difficult to identify what we really want and need. We forgo our own relationship with ourselves in order to meet others’ expectations. And so, this deck was created as a series of questions to invite us home to our own desires.
The Inner Mother Deck also invites us into a space where there is no one right answer, or no either/or options. Instead we can step into the magical spaces in between the binary, where more is possible and where our hearts can be the guide. We can listen for our own truth.
The images are all hand drawn by me and I have independently published the deck. I did not use any AI to produce the cards or the captions in the booklet. The deck can only be purchased through my website.
